Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program

Greetings!

Pack 34 whole-heartedly supports the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program.

This program offers the Cubs a chance to earn "Belt Loops and Pins".  The Belt Loop is the first level of award, the pin is an advanced level of award for each subject.

Note: These Pins are NOT the same as the "Pins" the Webelos earn. The 20 "Pins"

the Webelos can earn are officially called "activity badges".

===============================================================

Here is some information to help you with the program.

1) Pack 34 Administration of the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program

A Pack 34 Cub may earn any of the Belt Loops or Pins once each rank.

They may be earned, and re-earned if desired, at the Tiger, Wolf,  Bear, and Webelos

level.  Indeed, there are some requirements at the Webelos level that require earning

or re-earning a certain belt loop or pin as a Webelos Scout.

Encourage the Cub to earn different Belt Loops and Pins, not the same ones over and

Over (although they can).  Suggest they try to earn as many different ones as they can
while they are in Cub Scouts.  We believe in getting the Cubs to learn and experience

    different  things.

Den Leaders, spread out the program over the years.  It's not a one-year program.

Looking for a Den Meeting Activity?  Pick a Belt Loop as the basis for one.

The Belt Loops are earned before the associated pins.  Once a Cub earns the Belt Loop

He does NOT have to re-earn the belt loop before working on earning the Pin in a

    subsequent year.

2) The Paperwork

The Cub/Parent reports earning a Belt Loop or Pin to the Den Leader.

The Den leader verifies that the Cub met the requirement (i.e. ask Cub's parent if

    you need to).
The Den leader then forwards the Cub's name and name of Loop or Pin earned to the
    Cubmaster.

3) The Award

The Pack prepares a pocket card for award at the next Pack Meeting.

More than one Belt Loop or Pin earned at the same time, by the same Cub, may

be noted on the same card for economy.

4) Money

The Pack does not purchase the Belt Loops or Pins.  This is a budget requirement of
Pack 34.  While we encourage the Cubs to earn the Loops and Pins, our budget does

not permit us to fund them.  We do buy the pocket cards.

The parent of the Cub must go to a scout shop and purchase the Belt Loop or Pin

themselves.  The Council Scout Shop in Wood River and A&R Paint in Troy both

carry belt loops and pins. Call ahead, they sometimes sell out.

5) Sports and Academics Program Cloth Patches

Note that there are also two patches that the Parent may also choose to purchase
directly for the Cub.  The Pack does not purchase or award these.

    a) The PARTICIPATION EMBLEM (no.00803) a round patch, is available to all boys

who participate in the Academics and Sports Program (i.e. You have earned at least

one belt loop).  It is worn on the Patch Vest.

    b) The ACADEMIC AND SPORTS LETTER  (No. 00805) looks like a big "C"

("C" for Cub Scouts), is available to all boys who participate in the Academic and
Sports Program.  There are no specific requirement for earning the Letter.

It is worn on the Patch Vest.  Pins earned may be pinned to the Letter.

(We suggest that the Letter be purchased and worn only after earning the first pin.)

Please contact the Cubmaster or Committee Chair if you have any questions.

Enjoy the Program!
